Los Angeles/New York City/March 17, 2010 – Yaro Celis, professionally known as Yaro360, sat down with Christabel Nsiah-Buadi to discuss his relationship with African Americans, reveal the political roots of Salsa music and how his culture resonates in is work, for the Home from Home radio show, which will air on Monday, March 20.
On the heels of the Torii Hunter controversy, in which Hunter referred to dark-skinned Latin baseball players as “imposters,” Yaro delves into the complexities of the relationship between African Americans and the Black Latino community.
Yaro is a music producer whose catalogue spans popular, urban, world and R&B and whose talent for injecting African drum and Afro Latin chants gives modern music a worldly texture and depth beyond a single genre. His colorful upbringing has always included music: his youth stretched from Bogotá, Colombia and Mexico, to his late adolescence in rural America. After a year in Glasgow, UK, he now enjoys a professional career that straddles New York City and Los Angeles.
Others appearing on the show include Janet Johnson Bryant, founding member of the Liberian Mass Action for Peace and Academy Award winning filmmaker Gini Reticker about the impact of the civil war on Liberia's agriculture.
Home from Home is a multimedia radio show that celebrates the diversity of the global black experience through interviews with newsmakers, artists and thinkers from all corners of the globe, who connect to the African Diaspora experience.
