About DJ Nurotic
Born and raised in Chicago’s northwest side, Jorge Nino Jr. p/k/a DJ Nurotic's love for music was
apparent early on. At the age of six came one of the first signs he was born to be a DJ; he attempted to
mix two cassettes together using two different tape players in his basement. Raised on his family's
diverse body of music, ranging from his father's like of 70’s and 80’s; to his mother taste for top 40; to
his aunts and uncles introducing him to house and hip hop, his love for music flourished. While
attending a cousin's birthday party at the age of twelve, he witnessed someone "DJ" for the first time
and instantly he knew what he wanted to do with the rest of his life. Looking at the way each song was
played, styled and blended so smoothly, he was intrigued by the process.
Fortunately, the DJ (Tequila) was a friend of the family and agreed to help teach him the basics. Nurotic
worked with Tequila for about a year and a half. For the three years following, he used a friend’s homes
to have practice sessions. That is when he truly started to understand what it took to be good. Next
came his first turntables. With the help of his uncle and aunt, who had just purchased a bar in Chicago,
he received his first set of CD players, which he paid off by spinning for them every Friday. At 17, he
had landed his first residency. Dissatisfied with spinning in front of 50 or so people, he decided to start
his own event promotion company. For the next two years, he threw some of the biggest high school
parties at Major Hall in Chicago, averaging 500 people weekly. Even though the parties were
successful Nurotic was not fulfilled. He wanted to venture out and spin for many venues and crowds
and he did. Since making that decision he has never looked back, spinning everywhere from small
venues of 100 people to sold out concerts.
Having spun at concerts for groups and bands in many genres from hip hop to reggaeton, house to
bachata, he has never limited himself to one crowd or one genre. Besides most of Chicago, he has also
performed in Indiana, Wisconsin, Florida, Maryland, Nevada, Ohio, Iowa and New York. He has also
released an impressive amount of mixtapes, including is first mixtape series entitled “Self-Titled”. The
success from “Self-Titled” encouraged him to put out two more volumes of that series as well as to start
on others.
Though he has achieved much in a short span, his ambition continues to grow and though he's made
money and has achieved popularity, the main motivation behind his drive, is the love of music. Nothing
makes him feel better then to look up at a huge crowd and know that he controls how they feel for the
night.
