Seattle, WA / September 28, 2010 - The Latino Community Fund (LCF) is hosting the first ever Latino night at the theater called LCF:Taking Latinos to New Heights on Sunday, October 3, 2010 to encourage the Seattle Latino community to support local philanthropy and the arts.  This event will bring together Latino professionals and young Latino students from around Puget Sound, many of whom have never attended a live theatre show.

This special evening will include a reception will include cocktails and appetizers and will highlight the positive outcomes of grants awarded by the LCF in 2009, encourage new membership and increased community philanthropy and activism.  As a part of this event, the LCF will also sponsor 50 underprivileged Latino youth to attend “In the Heights” to encourage appreciation of and support for the performing arts.  The reception begins at 5:00 p.m. in the City Center Building, followed by a 7:00 p.m. show at the 5th Avenue Theatre.

"We worked with various nonprofit organizations and the Seattle and Bellevue Public School District to identify Latino youth who have not yet been exposed to the performing arts and could really benefit from attending this show. " Junior Torres, board member.

"In the Heights" is a Tony Award-winning musical that tells the story of the importance of home, family and finding where you belong.  Upon its debut in New York City, Charles Isherwood's review in The New York Times said that "when this musical erupts in one of its expressions of collective joy, the energy it gives off could light up the George Washington Bridge for a year or two"; and David Rooney's Variety review said, "That depth of feeling, together with the wit of Miranda's lyrics, the playful dexterity of his rhymes, his dynamic score and a bunch of truly winning performances, make the show an uncalculated charmer."

About the Latino Community Fund (LCF)

Less than 2% of all funding from the philanthropic community is awarded to Latino-led or Latino-serving institutions. LCF was formed to address that issue by inspiring community led philanthropy that would reward local organizations making positive changes in our community. LCF invests directly in the Latino community to cultivate new leaders, support effective non-profit organizations, and improve the quality of life for all Washingtonians.
