Carmelina Vargas Receives Certificate of Special Congressional Recognition from Congressman Charles B. Rangel of New York’s 15th District

Hispanic Community Organization for Life 4th Annual Health Fair & Street Festival

New York, NY / July 29, 2010 - Recording artist and breast cancer survivor turned advocate Carmelina Vargas received special Congressional recognition from New York’s 15th District Member of Congress Charles B. Rangel at the Hispanic Community Organization for Life’s 4th Annual Health Fair and Street Festival on Saturday, July 24, 2010. Ms. Vargas was recognized for her work in education and prevention, joining the administrators at the Columbia University Medical Center to start a Survivors Volunteer Squad, and fundraising support of the American Cancer Society.

“My community inspires me on a daily basis, and I will continue to support and give back that same inspiration that breathes air into my lungs,” says Carmelina.

After an unanticipated hiatus to beat a (Stage 2) Breast Cancer diagnosis following the release of her debut album "Morena," Carmelina returns as a true survivor. Stronger than ever, Carmelina has a renewed appreciation for life and pours her resilient heart and soul into a new single and music video, appropriately entitled “LOVE” -- dedicated to breast cancer survivors everywhere. “LOVE” was written and recorded as a cathartic practice for Carmelina herself.
